Rapid prototyping:
Discovering the
Right to Win

Client: Confidential Multinational Pharmaceutical Company
My Role: Product Designer
Duration: 3 months
Background

A pharmaceutical brand partnered with BOI to identify unmet shopper needs and challenges in their shopping experiences, aiming to excel in e-commerce and omni-channel engagement. My role involved creating clickable prototypes for concept testing and validation, as well as developing an interactive end-deliverable to secure stakeholder buy-in.

Approach & my role

Phase 1: Idea generation & Rapid prototyping

In a fast-paced idea generation workshop, I rapidly prototyped 12 concepts to evaluate their potential. This process allowed us to identify the four most promising concepts to move forward with while eliminating the less viable options.

Phase 2: Prototype refinement & iterative testing

My team and I conducted tests and experiments on the four selected prototypes to gather valuable data and insights. Based on the results, I refined the prototypes by integrating consumer feedback and making necessary adjustments. This approach ensured that the final concepts were well-tested and optimized to meet user needs and preferences effectively.

Phase 3: Creating the interactive end deliverable

I created an engaging and interactive deliverable that effectively distilled three months of work into prioritized layers of information. This comprehensive presentation showcased key insights, findings, and recommendations in an organized manner, making it easy for stakeholders to understand and act upon the information.

Idea generation & rapid prototyping

In this phase, my team first conducted 20 qualitative one-on-one interviews and 13 digital ethnographies with a diverse group of shoppers, each with varying experiences in purchasing OTC and VMS products. Leveraging the extracted insights, we synthesized and prioritized four distinct opportunity areas that offer untapped potential for our client to expand their e-commerce sales.

Capitalizing on the potential presented by the 4 identified opportunity areas, we held a 2-day ideation workshop where we generated 159 concepts. My role: Of the 159 concepts, we prioritized 12., of which I created rapid static prototypes in-session, for the purpose of aiding in end-of-day presentations and further prioritization.

Prototype refinement
& iterative testing

To assess the desirability and potential impact on e-commerce sales, a set of quantitative and qualitative validation tests was conducted.

My role: I refined the prototypes I made from the last phase, added interaction, and iteratively built upon them based on consumer feedback and test results.

These tests aimed to evaluate the appeal and effectiveness of each concept. The findings and results from these tests are presented in the dedicated concept section of this deliverable.

Creating an interactive
end deliverable

Often times, our project team puts months of hard work into a project only for it to get all thrown into a 100-page deck that ultimately will not engage or inspire it's target audience.

My role: Through interactive design, I am able to layer in all the most important information first, and prioritize the rest of the information in an engaging and non-distracting way.
